If you've used Instapaper or Pocket, it's like those except it's built for 2021 and beyond. Today, however, we're excited to announce a huge leap: We've built our own, fully-integrated reading app.Ĭurrently, our reading app (which we refer to as "Reader" for the time being) is a more powerful, more flexible version of the classic read-it-later app. This sounded just as ambitious when we originally wrote it in 2018, but we’ve made some meaningful steps since: thousands of customers, hundreds of millions of highlights, and more. However, several users spotted its arrival last month in Safari, which could mean either a phased rollout or a belated announcement on Amazon’s part. Our mission here at Readwise is to improve the practice of reading through software by an order of magnitude. The update with the feature is available now in the latest version of Kindle for iOS, according to the App Store’s release notes. But Kindle has a sizable audience as the No. It lacks features you may miss from competitors’ apps - like Instapaper’s text-to-voice option with multiple speeds, or Pocket’s community-powered Recommendations section, for example. However, Kindle is not a fully featured “read it later” app. Plus, you can add bookmarks, highlights and annotations, as well as track your reading progress, as with any other Kindle e-book. You also can use other Kindle features, like the ability to look up words in the dictionary, translations or search Wikipedia. It will also appear on the Kindle app on any platform, not just iOS, and on Kindle hardware devices themselves - just like any e-book download would.īy saving the web article to Kindle format, you’ll be able to do things like adjust the text, font, page color and spacing to your liking. When you launch the Kindle app, the article will be saved at the top of your Library, ready for your reading. To do so, you’ll tap on the “Share” button in the mobile browser, then add “Kindle” as one of the destinations by toggling the switch.įrom then on, when you’re on the web and don’t have time to complete your reading, you can tap on Share, then scroll over to Kindle to save the article to the Kindle app. With each launch of the Kindle app, you’ll be reminded of the web content you bookmarked for a later read - and that increases the chance that you’ll finally complete the task instead of continuing to ignore it, as is easier with more isolated apps like Instapaper.Īccording to Amazon’s App Store description, to use the new feature - which works with documents as well as web pages - you’ll first have to enable it in Safari’s settings. Kindle, on the other hand, is more a regular destination for readers - at least those who are not “real book” purists who prefer flipping actual pages to virtual ones. You sort of do want to read it, you probably should read it, but… well, let’s save that for another day! The act of marking something as “to read” instead of devouring it then and there on the spot typically means it’s not content you’re all that obsessed with in the first place. What’s funny about “read it later” apps is that they sometimes become a black hole for content. But now that lineup includes the default iOS browser, Safari, which will make the feature more accessible to a large number of users. That means your Kindle device or app can replace your preferred “read it later” application - like Pocket or Instapaper, for example - apps where regular web readers often store the longer news articles, features or profiles they want to dig into at a later date.Īmazon, of course, already supported saving web content to Kindle through desktop browser extensions, emails to your “Send-to-Kindle” email address and from Android phones. Amazon has quietly rolled out the “ Send to Kindle” feature to its Kindle for iOS application that allows you to save to the app articles and documents found on the web.
My role as the Timer is to keep time for all the speakers to ensure that every one speaks within their allotted time slot. Good morning fellow Toastmasters and guests. “Thank you Madam/Mister Toastmaster of the Day. In other words, they are allowed to cut their speech 30 seconds short, or go 30 seconds above the stipulated time. What that means is that if our speaker talks for 4:30 minutes or for 7:30 minutes, she still qualifies. In most speeches (if not all), a grace period of 30 seconds is allowed on either side of the speech. To put it briefly:įor example, in a speech ranging from 5 minutes to 7 minutes, the green card would go up on the 5 th minute (qualifying time), the yellow card would go up on the 6 th minute (target time) and the red card would go up on 7 th minute (finish time). You will also be given 3 coloured cue cards: green, red and yellow. Prepare this explanation in advance and carry a pen, paper and stopwatch (your phone has this feature too, of course) with you. Start by explaining what your duties as the Timer are. This is majorly done for the benefit of the guests as they are (most likely) unfamiliar with the various roles at Toastmaster. You will be called upon by the Toastmaster of the Day to introduce yourself and explain your role as the Timer. Playing the role of Timer: The Introduction Related article: Are You Getting the Most Out of Toastmasters? Here are 8 Ways to do so Since Toastmasters is a community platform, having set time slots allows more people to participate in the meeting as well. Having a set time for a speech forces us to focus only on the key points of our speech and leaves little room for wandering off topic (that is, IF you know what you want to communicate in the first place). After installing Clipper, launch the app and complete the tutorial to learn about its features. The free version of Clipper will save the last 20 items you've copied on your Android. If you'd rather not use Gboard, you can download a popular free clipboard manager called Clipper from the Play Store. If there's something you want to keep for longer than an hour, tap-and-hold it, and then tap the pin icon. Then, tap the clipboard icon in the row above the keys-if you don't see it, tap the three horizontal dots to display additional app icons, and select it there to see your copied items. Tap ""OK"" to confirm, select ""Gboard"" as the keyboard, and then tap ""Done."" After you've copied a few things to the clipboard, tap the typing area in any app, such as Google Docs, to spring open the keyboard. Then, tap ""Enable in Settings"" and slide the ""Gboard"" switch to the On position. If you're using a different keyboard app, download Gboard from the Play Store, and tap ""Open"" when the download is complete. Gboard's clipboard manager will show everything you've copied in the last hour. If you want to see more than just the most recently-copied text, you'll need to use a clipboard manager like the one built in to Google's official keyboard app. To see what's in your clipboard, open any app that allows you to type, such as Google Docs or Keep, tap-and-hold the typing area, and then select ""Paste"" from the menu. It will remain in the clipboard until you've copied something new or restarted Android. "When you highlight text on your Android and select ""Copy,"" that text is saved to a virtual clipboard. Since the name appeared to be fabricated, the U.S. Willing claimed that the name was derived from a Shoshone term meaning "the sun comes from the mountains" or "gem of the mountains", but it was revealed later that there was no such term and Willing claimed that he had been inspired to coin the name when he met a little girl named Ida. The official state nickname is the "Gem State", a figurative expression which references Idaho's natural beauty. Idaho's agricultural sector supplies many products, but the state is best known for its potato crop, which comprises around one-third of the nationwide yield. The United States Forest Service holds about 38% of Idaho's land, the highest proportion of any state. Idaho is quite mountainous, and contains several stretches of the Rocky Mountains. The state's south includes the Snake River Plain (which has most of the population and agricultural land), and the southeast incorporates part of the Great Basin. The state's north, the relatively isolated Idaho Panhandle, is closely linked with Eastern Washington, with which it shares the Pacific Time Zone-the rest of the state uses the Mountain Time Zone. Unlike other educational games from the ‘90s and early 2000s, Minecraft: Education Edition is more of a tool than a purpose-built lesson. Theoretically, the game can be used to teach any subject, either as the main lesson plan or as supplemental material. Minecraft is also great for teaching coding the basic codes students assemble interact with other elements in the game, giving them more incentive to learn the skill. However, that’s just the tip of the iceberg. What Can Minecraft: Education Edition Teach?Īlthough it may sound obvious, Minecraft: Education Edition teaches students how to use a computer. And, finally, the other major difference worth noting is that Minecraft: Education Edition features pre-programmed lesson plans, making the process of learning even easier. One such item is a chalkboard, which teachers can use to provide notes and other information about the students’ objectives. Photo Courtesy: MinecraftĪlthough items are important in all iterations of the game, Minecraft: Education Edition features exclusive in-game items. While the original Minecraft allows users to build a world that other players can interact with, Minecraft: Education Edition lets students access a world - or level - that their teacher creates. Minecraft: Education Edition takes the basic premise of the original Minecraft but retools it a bit, making the game more practical for a classroom environment.
